Saint Germaine was ignored and mistreated by her father and foster family, often fed leftovers, beaten, and accused of stealing. One winter, her stepmother charged her for the theft of bread, but when Germaine showed her apron summer flowers fell from it. She was seen as a holy woman and was invited to live in the house, but she refused, living as she had while being abused.
